Keynote abstract

Effective teaching and learning in early childhood settings depend not only on the quality of interactions between adults and children. We also know there is a relationship between high-quality interactions and the commitment of teachers to their own continuing professional development. But what do we really know about effective professional development in early childhood settings?

In this keynote presentation, Joce used examples drawn from research and professional development carried out in Australia and New Zealand to highlight the complexity of teacher learning in early childhood centres, and shared some of the ways researchers are beginning to understand how teachers learn to be more effective practitioners.
