New Years Honours for NZCA Council member- Publication date: 4 January 2009
The 2009 New Years Honours list has brought recognition for New Zealand Childcare Association Council member Toesulu Maea Brown.Toesulu was honoured with a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her important contribution to Pacific Island communities in Auckland. Toesulu has been teaching at schools in Auckland since the seventies and has had a long standing involvement in organising the world’s largest Polynesian school festival.
Outside of schooling, Toesulu is a passionate advocate for the cultural importance of teaching the Samoan language in New Zealand and is President of both FAGASA Inc and a national women’s group PASIFIKA Inc.
Toesulu has been involved with ECE for many years, through work on a number of management and advisory committees. She was elected to the NZCA Council in 2002 and is the current Pasifika representative. Her work on the National Diploma in Teaching ECE Pasifika and her support for lecturers and students is of immense value to the Association.
