Current programmes
Mid-year intake July 2010
This year we will only be accepting a mid-year intake into our National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) programme in Auckland.
Intake for the Te Tari Puna Ora o Aotearoa/NZ Childcare Association (NZCA), Diploma of Teaching (ECE) programme is in January. The closing date is 1 December. In some areas we may run a limited mid-year intake should places become available. You are welcome to apply at any time of the year, your application will be considered at the next intake. Eligible applicants will be invited to attend a selection interview.
The intake for the National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) programme is in July. The closing date is 1 June. Eligible applicants will be invited to attend a selection interview.
Student numbers are limited by spaces available within individual areas. Where there are more selected applicants than spaces available, a waiting list is created.
Entry requirements
Applications will only be considered from candidates who meet the following criteria:
- be at least 17 years old
- demonstrate a commitment to early childhood education
- have relevant experience and engagement in early childhood education and/or care services in a paid or voluntary capacity
- be able to continue working at least 15 hours a week in an early childhood centre while they are completing the programme. In addition, applicants for the National Diploma in Teaching (ECE, Pasifika) must be working in a centre with Pasifika children and families
- evidence of satisfactory literacy and numeracy
- evidence of good character and fitness to be a good teacher.
Applicants under 20 years of age must also have:
A minimum of 48 level 2 credits NCEA/unit standards over four subject areas, with a minimum of 13 credits in English at level 2.
Applicants with Overseas Qualifications
Applicants who have gained their educational qualifications in a language other than English must provide evidence of their proficiency in English. These applicants must undertake an academic IELTS test and gain an overall band score of 7.0 with no subject below 7.0. We recommend that applicants with overseas qualifications submit these to New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) for an assessment and recognition as to compatibility with New Zealand qualifications.
