
The National Diploma in Teaching (ECE Pasifika) is no longer open for applications. All new students with NZCA will be undertaking our Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) programme.
The programme
- Taught over three years, comprising stages 1, 2 and 3
- Has 12 modules with each module taught in a ten week term
- Centre based
- Pasifika focused
- Bicultural and based on Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Involves ongoing assessment, written and in-practice
- Is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the New Zealand Teachers Council and leads to teacher registration. (Qualification code ND0983)
- No longer available to new students.
Centre based learning
The centre based model allows you to use theory and research to shape your teaching practice. You can be a volunteer or employed at a centre while you study. You will need to be working in centres where there is a minimum of three Pasifika families.
Course requirements
Course requirements include:
Weekly tutorials (10 hours per week = 1.5 days)
Self directed study and assessment work (recommended 6.5 hours per week)
- Supervised teaching experience in the centre (15 hours per week minimum)
- Practicums in other early childhood settings, one per stage
- Attend a minimum of 80% of tutorial sessions, carry out written assignments and research and complete set tasks.
